Making Reservations

Q: Is the Riverhouse available on the dates I want?
A: To check availability for either space, locate the “Reservations” menu item on the bar across the top of each of our web pages.  Position your cursor over the word “Reservations” and click on “Riverhouse”.  A page with an availability calendar will be displayed.  You can move ahead and back in the calendar by clicking on the “>>” and “<<” arrows to the right and left of the month heading.  Reserved dates are shown in color; available dates are shown in dark grey.

Q: What is the price per night for the dates I want?
A: Hover your cursor over a date on the calendar to see the price (before tax) for that date. You can also check the price (including tax & cleaning fee) for an entire stay by clicking the check-in date, then the check-out date.  The price shows up below, beside “Total reservation cost (incl. tax):”. Note that hovering over the date shows the price before tax, while clicking on a range of dates shows the price including tax, below.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, cash and personal checks.

  • If you make your reservation online, you can pay your deposit with most credit cards, using PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account to do this). If you call us to make your reservation, you can pay your deposit with a credit card, cash or personal check (we will book your reservation when we receive your payment).
  • To pay your remaining balance (at check-in), we accept credit cards, cash, and personal checks.

Q: I don’t have a PayPal account; can I still pay my deposit online?
A: Yes. You can use your credit card to pay the deposit without setting up a PayPal account. After you click the “Send” button on the page where you provide your reservation information, you’ll be taken to a page that shows the payment information. Click “Pay Now”, and you will be presented with the choice to pay with or without a PayPal account.

Q: Can I pay my deposit by personal check?
A: Yes. Please contact us to make the reservation, and let us know you will be paying the deposit by check. We will book your reservation when we receive your payment.

Q: The website is not working – I want to reserve 2 days but it makes me reserve at least 3.
A: The minimum stay is two nights (3 nights during holidays) so you will check out 2 days after your check-in date, and your stay will include parts of three days. Click on your check-in date, then on your check-out date. The day in between will be automatically included. You will only be charged for the 2 NIGHTS you reserve. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, please contact us, and we will be happy to enter the reservation for you.

Q: When exactly does the three-night minimum apply?
A: The three night minimum apples if any part of your stay falls in one of these holiday periods:

  • Thanksgiving: starting the day (Wednesday) before Thanksgiving and continuing through the Saturday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas:
    • If Christmas falls on Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed: starting the Friday before Christmas and continuing through the Thursday after Christmas.
    • If Christmas falls on Thu/Fri: starting on Dec. 24th and continuing through Dec. 30th
  • Memorial Day: starting the Friday before Memorial Day and continuing through Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July: July 3rd through 5th
  • Labor Day: starting the Friday before Labor Day and continuing through Labor Day

Q: When do peak season rates apply?
A: Peak season rates apply from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, and during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays (see previous question).

Q: I’m arriving on Friday and leaving on Sunday.  What days do I click on, and how many nights will I be charged for?
A: Click on Friday, then on Sunday. You will be charged for two nights.

Q: How’s the river doing? Is it flowing well?
A: For at least the last 50 years, the river has flowed steadily through Hunt. You can check the current status at the USGS web site here.

Q: Can I sleep 7 in the Riverhouse?
A: No, the Riverhouse sleeps a maximum of 6.

Q: Can I bring my small dog?
A: Yes, we’re happy to accommodate small pets.

Q: Is maid service provided during my stay?
A: No. A washer and dryer are available for your use. There is an ample supply of towels and washcloths in the bathroom. We wash all sheets and towels after each guest checks out.

Q: Do you provide food? linens? supplies?
A: We supply bedding, towels, washcloths, bar soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, dishwashing detergent, cooking utensils, pots, and pans, eating utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, and a coffee pot. The Riverhouse has a full kitchen (range, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher). We do not supply any food.

Q: Oops! I left something there. Can you send it to me?
A: We will gladly ship any items you left behind.  You will be changed for the cost of shipping plus a $10 service fee.  Contact us to request shipment.

Q: What can I do there?
A: Swim in or canoe up the river, relax, BBQ, read a book, see what’s playing at the Point Theatre, birdwatch, hike, visit Fredericksburg, slide down the Ingram Lake dam, visit Stonehenge II, nap, line dance and watch the rodeo at Crider’s, check out the stores on the Old Ingram Loop, star gaze…

Q: How close is the river? Is it easy to get into and out of?
A: The Guadalupe River is about 30 to 50 feet in back of the Riverhouse, and runs from there for about 400’ to the west. There are swimming and fishing areas at the east and west ends, and some shallow rapids in-between. To get in the river at the east end, nearest the Riverhouse, you would go down about 20 stone steps to a landing where there is a ladder into the river. There is also a bridge over the river there, and if you cross the bridge, you can simply wade into the water. At the west end, there is a canoe dock; just sit on the dock and slide right into the river! The east end swimming/fishing area is narrower and faster moving; you can see it out the dining room windows of the Riverhouse. The west end swimming/fishing area is wider and slow moving. In-between the swimming areas the river is shallow, and fun to walk or sit in, for those who are so inclined!

Q: Can I hunt on your property?
A: No.

Q: Where can I buy groceries, shop, eat out?
A: There’s a list of several local businesses in the dining area of the Riverhouse, and here; or ask Betty for a recommendation when you arrive!
